Future Threads: How Lenzing Is Backing the Next Wave of Textile Innovators

Future Threads: How Lenzing Is Backing the Next Wave of Textile Innovators

We’re big fans of cozy fabrics and conscious choices but who’s actually inventing the next generation of sustainable materials? Spoiler alert: they might still be in school. And Lenzing? They’ve got their eye on them.

Putting the Spotlight on Young Visionaries

The Lenzing Group—yeah, the folks making regenerated cellulose fibers feel like luxury are back with their Young Scientist Award, and we’re here for it. This fourth edition is all about celebrating bright minds with bold ideas in sustainable textiles. The award ceremony lands September 10–12, 2025, during the 64th Global Fiber Congress in Dornbirn, Austria. (Try saying that without sounding fancy.)

Who Can Apply (And What’s in It for Them)

This year’s lineup opens the stage to everyone from bachelor’s to doctoral students, offering:

  • €3,000 for bachelor’s/master’s thesis winners
  • €5,000 for PhD-level innovation

The common thread? All projects must revolve around sustainable cellulose-based tech, think fibers, films, or futuristic new blends we haven’t even heard of yet.

How to Throw Your Hat in the Ring

Got a game-changing thesis? Here's what you’ll need:

  • Your CV
  • Your full thesis
  • A 1–2 page summary of the problem, solution, results, and where it’s headed

Submissions must be in English and are due June 30, 2025. Hit up [email protected] to apply.

More Than Just a Prize

Winning this award isn’t just a flex it’s an open door. Winners will present their work at GFC in front of industry leaders, collaborators, and fellow future-shapers. It’s about building connections and getting your name out there, long before the LinkedIn buzz kicks in.

Why We Love This

At MOONWEAR, we get excited over anything that moves the needle on sustainability and this award is proof that real innovation starts with bold questions and fresh thinking. The future of fashion is being written right now, in lab notes, research drafts, and shared Google Docs.

So if you're a student with a vision? This is your runway.

Stay bold. Stay curious.
